Background The best background color to use to make sure your jewelry stands out is white. It keeps the picture clean and eliminates any distraction from any other patterns or colors. Purchase a plain white poster board to use as a background or use a white surface like a table or floor. Of course you can always use other colors as a background, but we suggest one with no patterns. Lighting The best lighting to use is natural light from the sun! Mornings and afternoons are great times to shoot. The midday sun can be too harsh. Try shooting near a large window, your backyard or front patio. Camera/Angle You don't need a fancy camera to get a great shot, your camera phone will get the job done. Try different angles until you get the desired photo. Shooting from the top view is usually best. Use a chair to get higher if needed. Styling/Props Use props like magazines, flowers, sunglasses, or whatever ties to the theme of the photo. Make sure the props don't overshadow the jewelry. The jewelry should always be the main focus. Stick to one color scheme to keep the photo cohesive. Experiment with different arrangements and leave some empty space so the photo doesn't look too crowded. Editing After you have taken endless pictures, narrow it down to your favorite and start editing. When editing your photo try adjusting the saturation and contrast, as well as lightening up the photo. Here are a few great apps you can download to help enhance your images: Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, AfterLight, VSCO, Snapseed. Selfies Who doesn't love a selfie? When you feel and look great you want to share it with everyone. Taking a selfie to show off your jewelry is a great way to make a sale. People like to see how the jewelry looks on. Take your selfie in front of a background that will compliment the jewelry. Try standing in front of a plain wall, a pretty plant or flowers. Remember natural light is best when taking a photo.
